Boys Will Be Boys and We'll Be Their Toys

Ongoing.

This project was first ignited as a spoken word in response to the murder of a young woman, Sarah Everard, at the hands of a Metropolitan police officer in London, 3rd March 2021. It was sparked by the outpour of collective outrage, fatigue and solidarity among women and other marginalised genders.

My words are a reflection of the unsettling feeling of distrust within our society and the harsh truth surrounding the lack of safety women and other marginalised genders face day-to-day within contemporary Britain.

The casual normalisation of nuanced behavioural patterns that we are expected to follow in order to avoid violence, sexually, physically and verbally by men brings to question who we, as a society, are placing blame on for these acts of violence. This is a centuries old battle, one that all genders must seek to eradicate. It cannot be overcome solely by those who are directly affected and targeted by it. Change comes when we all actively seek it.

Change begins with conversations, understanding others life experiences that are different from your own and most importantly the capacity to listen.
